Standing out from typical band line-ups in today’s live music scene The Funk brings eight talented musicians together who love to perform live music and love providing the highest quality show for any occasion.

The standard line-up consists of Mark and Domonique – lead vocals, Adam – guitar, Dave – keys, Phil – drums, Spencer – bass, Bob – trumpet, Mark – sax. Predominantly a cover band we take you on a journey through a range of genres including rock, funk, pop, disco even the odd classic heavy rock song. Some examples of tunes we play are Blame it on the Boogie, Walkin, Jailbreak, Kiss, I feel good, Shake your tailfeather, Live louder, Disco inferno and the list goes on…

Mark as a front man and vocalist has over 25 years experience playing in the most popular rock and show bands on the Central Coast, Sydney and Newcastle. Some of these include the 12 piece show band, `Now for the Weather’ and rock bands, Undercover and Gravy Train.

Coming up with the original concept for `The funk’ Mark ensures people are up dancing from the first song and stay up all night.

`our goal simply, is to put on a professional show so everybody has a great night up dancing and having fun’ Some of our playlist has rarely been attempted by other bands and the crowd seems to really love it’


Spencer Price



Spencer, AKA ``The Smiling Assassin``, anchors The funk with solid unrelenting funky bass riffs. He's cool, calm and collected and never misses a beat. CLICK FOR MORE

Spencer is one of the Central Coasts most versatile and sort after bass players. His funky style of playing provides the band with a solid foundation & defining sound. With over 25 years of professional experience in the industry he is truely an unmistakeable talent and kindly nicknamed by the band “The Smiling Assassin”


Bob Swaddling



Starting his musical journey at the age of 14 Bob began playing trumpet at Gorokan High School. As a professional musician, Bob toured and played with the Australian Blues Bothers Show for over 15 years. CLICK FOR MORE

Bob was born in Western Australia but grew up on the NSW’s Central Coast. He started his musical journey at the age of 14 playing trumpet in a variety of ensembles throughout his schooling life at Gorokan High School. After leaving school, Bob worked for Australian Music Education as a music educator and band director in schools all over the Central Coast. He has had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students how to play a musical instrument. His other musical passion was composition. At the age of 17 Bob entered and won the ABC’s young composers competition. The piece “Latin Jive” later was recorded by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and was published in a teacher’s resource handbook. Bob has travelled extensively over the last 20 years composing, conducting, teaching, performing & recording in the Hunter & Central Coast regions as well as interstate. As a professional musician, Bob toured and played with the Australian Blues Bothers Show for over 15 years. During this time he returned to the University of Newcastle, and undertook a double major studying composition under Australian Composer Colin Spiers, and trumpet under John Kellaway. In 2015 Bob obtained his Masters in teaching. He currently works as a music teacher at Toronto High School. Currently bob is enjoying playing as a member of “The Funk” and teaching.


Dominique Morgan

Dominique is an inimitable solo artist based on the Central Coast of NSW. Immersing herself in as many musical opportunities as possible, Dominique is showing no signs of slowing down. With her deep, expressive vocals and sassy tunes she creates an eclectic style including soul, rhythm and blues and jazz.

Since Dominique’s first EP release late December 2015 she has recently toured the east coast and has also just released her latest single ‘Sweet Honey’. Dom is now itching to get back on the road wrapping up her 2016 with a bang playing a NYE show at The Tanglewood Music Festival in VIC! Her first show for 2017 is at the grooviest venue on the coast, The Rhythm Hut Gosford supporting the very talented and quirky, Sahara Beck.

Playing at many venues across NSW Dominique has pleased and amazed many crowds of all ages performing at venues such as The Byron Bay Beach Hotel supporting US artist Dustin Thomas,The Treetops Retreat Avoca supporting Powder finger member Darren Middleton, Lizottes venues as well as local festivals such as Mountain Sounds 2014 and the annual 5 Lands-Walk on the Central Coast 2014/2015.

A former student from Country Singer Gina Jeffreys Workshops, Dominique received the Gina Jefferies scholarship award in 2010. Her recent first EP release was recorded and produced by Rod McCormack December 2015. Recorded with a number of special guest musicians, including Beyonce's musical director and drummer, Gorden Campbell – her highly anticipated EP is now available for purchase at all of Dominique’s live shows!

Dominique is inspired by classic artists such as, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and modern artists like Amy Winehouse, Allen stone, John Mayer and Kimbra.


Phil Mahler

It was an old snare drum owned by his father that caught the attention of Philip at the age of 7 which marks the beginning of playing the drums. As a young teenager he acquired his first full drum kit. Full of enthusiasm and inspired by various music styles he followed his passion on a journey to becoming a ‘real drummer’ which continues today. The late teens saw some valuable tutoring from two of Australia’s accomplished drummers Steve Fernley and John Pryor. Philip’s on stage experience began playing in a small Live Theatre group and continued with various rock and roll bands, including popular Central Coast bands ‘Upfront’, ‘Scruples’ and ‘Strawbry Blonde’, rhythm and blues bands and larger bands including the 12 piece show band ‘Now For The Weather’.

After taking time out to focus on developing a small business and raising a family Philip see’s it an honour and privilege to be reunited and share the stage with long-time friends and talented musicians that make up ‘The Funk’.


Mark Voorwinde



Mark has been playing the sax for over 30yrs and is still trying to get it right. CLICK FOR MORE

In primary school Mark didn’t even know what a saxophone was. Hearing the solo in “Money” by Pink Floyd Mark said to his older brother “I love the sound of that instrument, I’m going to play that one day” his brother said “that’s a saxophone”. Simon, his older brother then went to school the next day and told the music department that Mark wanted to play the sax and they put one aside for him. The following year when Mark started in High School he was presented with a brand new sax and has been in love with the sax ever since.

With over 30 years experience Mark is totally at home on stage. With a multitude of styles played Mark is classically trained, has played in Jazz ensembles, marching bands, show bands, rock bands and was one of the original members of the show band “Now For The Weather”. Mark has also worked on cruise ships as a musician travelling the world.

“Even if I’m feeling unwell or unhappy when I’m playing music it makes me happy and fills me with energy”


Adam Lang

Adam has been playing music since he was 7 years old starting on the piano accordion. Around the age of 13 he moved onto bluegrass banjo, guitar, bass and mandolin. Adam has played in many bands over the years covering styles from country, bluegrass, rock, funk, original, indie to death metal. Adam has also

Dave Underwood

Dave Underwood “Krusty” has played piano since he was 11yrs old. With 30yrs experience in the live music industry, he’s played Classical, Jazz and Rock. Having performed in many local bands, trios and duos. Along with Guitarist Adam Lang, they were part of the very well known Central Coast band “The Button Mushrooms”. Dave has performed with most other band members of The Funk in the former band “Now For The Weather”.

Dave has also won two MO Awards with Celtic band “The Seltic Sirens”, comprising local and Sydney musicians.

“The Funk” is the latest line-up for him and a great time will be enjoyed by all who hear them perform.
